Progress Towards 3.12

  • Piñeiro is preparing a email about changes on clutter/ATK in order to get gnome-shell working on wayland.
  • Piñeiro also has in his TODO list reactivate wayland discussion threads.
  • Piñeiro has been this week on the GNOME 3.10.2 release, so he was busy
  • Joanie has completed the switch over to not use focus: events.
  • There are four bugs in which those events are still required, so she is hacking around that and will file bugs.
  • Joanie is still refactoring/rewriting all of Orca (performance, etc.).
  • Joanie will test Benjamin's patch soon.
  • Implementors status about deprecated focus stuff:
    • gtk: pending to test Benjamin patch
    • webkitgtk: we will deal with it when gtk gets solved
    • firefox: opened a bug last week. They are not using the tracking stuff, but seems that will keep sending object:focus event, because they are worried about old versions of Orca.
    • clutter (so gnome-shell): not using at all those deprecated methods.
    • Mike has a set of (uncommitted) patches that allow attributes to be sent with events, so that a D-Bus call doesn't need to be made every time Orca looks at the attributes in response to an event. The infrastructure should be useful for wider things. Still a TODO to write the list again.

OPW

  • Joseph was contacted by Sriram asking (1) if there is any a11y project that Gayathri could apply for for next year, and (2) is there any small work she could do now to gain experience.
  • Joanie was CC'ed on the email.
  • Joseph replied that "next year" is too far in the future for him to commit to anything.
  • But he told Sri that he would bring the issue up here at this meeting.
  • Gayathri is interested in testing work.
  • quote: "she prefers to do something in testing".

W3C Updates

  • There is a meeting of all the W3C working groups in China this past week.
  • Joseph did not attend, so doesn't have any news. :-)

  • Page that describes the meetings; http://www.w3.org/2013/11/TPAC/

Miscellaneous Time

Action Items

Ongoing / Rolled-Over

  • Mike:
    • Propose more specific API for being asynchronous and email the list.
  • Joanie:
    • Test Benjamin's work-in-progress focus-related deprecation patch.
    • Review current bugs about API additions and create new ones, with 3.12 target in mind.
    • Review the first public draft of ARIA 1.1 with specific attention to our current API.
    • Do some testing and update the Evolution a11y bugs.
  • Juanjo:
    • Take a look at the current a11y material in order to make an action plan.
  • Piñeiro:
    • Ping the different Wayland-related mailing list threads.
    • Send a email explaining his proposal about gnome-shell under wayland, and asking for suggestions.
    • gnome-shell not accessible on wayland. Hacky solution available. Proper solution needed.
    • Look at tooltip related code to see the possibility of adding mouse-in, mouse-out event at the a11y toolkit.
    • Check with gtk and clutter developers to see what the plans are with respect to pango.
