Dead / Obsolete

Issues

XMMS

Issues

“I'm not dead yet” ~Monty Python & the Holy Grail

WVare

Issues

This project is part of Abiword and is no longer in development. Site suffers from poor visual design but everything works

Vinagre

Issues

Nice and simple site, but no online documentation of any kind

Totem

Issues

Poor design for the default media player of Gnome. A. Main Page http://www.gnome.org/projects/totem/

  • 1.Typo under “Installing from a file” section, “...your package manger will handle future updates...”. Change manger to manager. 2.None of the links except Rpmfind under the “Installing from a file” section link to packages. Deb is missing, Ubuntu links to a restricted formats page, both Fedoras link to tutorials. 3.Still contains an “Installing from CVS”section. Replacing all instances of CVS with SVN will fix this perfectly. 4.Screenshots navigation link at the top leads nowhere.

Sodipodi

Issues

No index page, initially presented with the default apache index. Maintainer has mis-named the index to index.php3. Very roughly translated from Russian, banner remains in Russian. Has not yet reached a stable build and hasn't been updated since 2005. I suggest removal A. Main Page http://www.sodipodi.com/index.php3

  • 1.No information about project on main page, only news. Forced to visit the sourceforge page to discover that it was a vector graphics program

B. Download CVS http://www.sodipodi.com/index.php3?section=download/cvs

  • 1.Still uses gnome CVS. Needs to be updated to SVN

Sketch

Issues

Website and Project have been abandoned. I suggest removal

SlashXB

Issues

Links to the IBM open source page, not related to SlashXB at all. Site was previously hosted there but it seems to have been deleted. The project may be dead

Sabayon

Issues
  • Good site and visual design but main page needs to updated
  • Main Page http://www.gnome.org/projects/sabayon/

    • 1.Main Page appears to have not been updated since 0.12 because it links to a blog about that version. Current release is 2.20. 2.The Download section still refers to the gnome CVS repository this needs to be updated to SVN

Rhythmbox

Issues
  • Needs more visual style, updates, documentation. Keep content on web site instead of live.gnome.org

Progress

RadioActive

Issues

Completely replaced by Gnomeradio (http://www.wh-hms.uni-ulm.de/~mfcn/gnomeradio/). The Gnomeradio Website is in Excellent condition and I suggest replacing this entry with it.

Pspell

Issues

Pspell was absorbed by Aspell, the name should be changed on the Gnome projects site to reflect this. Site is plain text only

Pong

Issues

Basic plain text tutorial only, for developers only so this seems satisfactory. There are no download links although this may be included with Gconf.

Planner

Issues

Main Page http://live.gnome.org/Planner

Pkgconfig

Issues

Very simple site for a very simple program A. Main Page http://pkg-config.freedesktop.org/wiki/FrontPage

  1. Bazaar repository (http://pkg-config.freedesktop.org/bzr/) is empty.

PiTiVi

Issues

Wiki only. A. Main Page http://www.pitivi.org/wiki/Main_Page

  1. “Summer of Code – Follow...Google Summer of Code 20007”. Change to 2007

Peacock

Issues

Links to respective sourceforge page. There are many better HTML editors that have replaced this. I suggest removal.

Pan

Issues

Navigation text is hard to read (poor font choice) A. User Manual http://pan.rebelbase.com/manual/

  • 1.Maintainer states that a user manual is in development, but it has not been created yet

Orca

Issues

A. Downloads http://www.gnome.org/projects/orca/index.html

  • 1.Still refers to the Gnome CVS repository. The text needs to be changed to SVN but the link currently redirects to there

Orbit-Python

Issues

Main Page http://freshmeat.net/redir/pyorbit/36422/url_tgz/pyorbit-2.0.0.tar.gz

  • 1.The download links are one release behind (2.0.0), latest is 2.0.1 2.No on-site documentation of any kind 3.Only minimum info and outdated download links, nothing else

ORBit

Issues

A. Main Page http://www.gnome.org/projects/ORBit2/index.html

  • 1.Both of the links in the “Latest News” section link to a blank page 2.“...supported by Red Hat and Ximian as...” the t in Red Hat needs to be bold.

B. Documents http://www.gnome.org/projects/ORBit2/documentation.html

  • 1.“Corba in 5 minutes” link is down

C. Download http://www.gnome.org/projects/ORBit2/download.html

  • 1.The “Joining Development” section gives instructions to access the gnome CVS. This needs to be updated to the gnome SVN

D. Bugzilla

  • 1.The Bugzilla navigation link refers to bugzilla.gnome.org instead of the specific ORBit 2 page

E. CVS tree

  • 1.The CVS tree navigation link refers to a missing or moved page 2.This should be changed to instruction for accessing the gnome SVN

Gnome/Openoffice.org

Issues

Seems to be a “placeholder” for a site commenting on the integration of OpenOffice with Gnome but it isn't actually a project page and is extremely outdated. Contains multiple broken links. Since this site is so deprecated and serves no real purpose, I highly suggest replacing this with a link to OpenOffice.org.

OAF

Issues

Site has been moved or removed.

NumExp

Issues

Hasn't been updated in a while but otherwise good

NetworkManager

Issues

Great site! A. Main page http://www.gnome.org/projects/NetworkManager/

  • 1.“For information on obtaining the NetworkManager source code from GNOME CVS” needs to be changed to SVN. This is a typo only, the developers page includes correct SVN instructions

Nautilus-actions

Issues

Suffers from poor translation/non-standard English which makes it difficult to read documentation A. Main Page http://www.grumz.net/index.php?q=taxonomy/term/8/9

  • 1.The entire site appears to have been very poorly translated or typed. For example, “It allow to configure program to be launch on files selected into Nautilus interface.” - “...If it is not the case, first, try to simply restart Nautilus in order it loads the new Nautilus-actions extensions...” The whole site needs to be retranslated to standard English 2.The Development link “Browse the CVS repository” links to the gnome SVN. Link name needs to be updated

B. Documentation http://www.grumz.net/index.php?q=taxonomy/term/7/9

  1. The FAQ is currently for version 0.99 and has not been updated to the latest (1.4.1)

Nautilus

Issues

The default file manager for Gnome should have an updated site. Very little content A. Downloads http://www.gnome.org/projects/nautilus/

LibXSLT

Issues

Site suffers from hideous design flaws, I suggest a complete redesign. Essentially the same as LibXML A. Exactly the same as LibXML.

LibXML

Issues

Issues: Site suffers from hideous design flaws, I suggest a complete redesign. A. Downloads http://www.xmlsoft.org/downloads.html

  • 1.“Gnome FTP server” link is broken and points to nothing

2.“source archive” link needs to be changed from ftp:// to http:// in order to access gnome's ftp which happens to be the only easily usable mirror. 3.The primary mirror is very unorganized, each dependency of equal version is separated by several files, making it very hard to track down all the necessary packages. 4.Both Australian mirrors suffer from this same problem as well 5.SVN should be mentioned near the top as it is gnome maintained and neatly organized

Java-Gnome

Issues
