A Coruña GNOME Olympic Games on Saturday July 28th

=> UPDATED!

  • Where? They will take place just across the street of the venue (literally, 50 meters from it)

  • When? Saturday 28th, 18:00 - 20:00

  • Who? Everyone is invited! Either to play or watch, or cheer.

Luckily this year's venue has additional sports facilities like volleyball and basketball fields. Events for such sports can be arranged, but we need to know if people is interested.

Considering that stamina is not that abundant in hackers, try to sign up only for your preferred sport.

Contact DiegoEscalanteUrrelo (diegoe@gnome.org) for any questions or suggestions regarding the event.

Even though anyone may just come and join us in the court, we have distributed the people already in the wiki into different squads for each sport, footbal/soccer (actually futsal), basketball and volleyball (see below). Please, do *not* hesitate in writing down your name in whatever sport/team you want in the wiki :-)

The schedule SHOULD be this (we're running to a very tight schedule, so please, try to avoid delays)

* 1st slot: 18:00-18:45 Futsal semi-finals (two simultaneous matches, one indoor and another one outdoor)

  • Segmentation Fault (A) vs. Core Dumped (B) [Indoor]

Out of Memory (C) vs. Stack Overflow (D) [Outdoor]

* 2nd slot: 18:50-19:35 Volleyball and Basketball finals

  • Gaivotas vs. Parrulos [Indoor]

    Bolboretas vs. Vagalumes [Indoor]

* 3rd slot: 19:40-20:25 Futsal final (Simultaneously to the consolation game)

IMPORTANT: Although football/soccer was initially announced (i.e. grass field), some problems have come up with the grass :-/ so it has been changed for futsal (5 vs 5 in an indoor or outdoor court). If you would like to participate but you don't have the appropriate sport shoes, speak to the GUADEC team in the infodesk during the morning.

Wishlist of items

  • One or many balls, for soccer, basket, volley.
  • Drinks: water, soft drinks. At least one per person, if the cafeteria can provide them it would be great.
  • Some kind of memento for the winning team, or better, one for everyone.

Main event: VII FreeFA World Cup

Since 2006, GNOME contributors from around the world get together to match their might against each other and find out who is the "less bad" soccer team.

Different scenarios have hosted this historic event: Barcelona, Birmingham, Istanbul, Las Palmas, Den Haag, Berlin. Now, A Coruña will receive the less-worse players from around the world.

Playing in this Cup is not easy, the soccer ball has the tendency to roll away from players and jogging has proven a challenge for some hackers. You can join the challenge by adding your name.

FreeFA World Cup players

  • (!) We play friendly and for fun
There has never been any injury, except against Bastien, but for extra safety bring a pair of shinpads. Also, comfortable clothes and shoes are suggested.
