Active translators who translate software in the GNOME SVN repository may request a personal SVN account so that they may commit their contributed translations, and the translations of others, directly into the repository.
If you have any questions about the following requirements, be sure to also read our Account FAQ.
Prerequisites
Since accounts are associated with a number of privileges and also require some administrative work in order to be created, they are not given to every translator or every translator who requests one, or even every team coordinator that requests one. That would both be impractical and a waste of resources. Instead, there are some prerequisites for an account to be granted, which you will find below.
Reasonable Amount of Contribution
The translator who requests an account must already have contributed a significant number of non-trivial translations.
"Already contributed" is generally interpreted as "the contributions must have already been accepted into the repository". If you have created some translations that you believe are of acceptable quality, talk to your language team coordinator or some other person who already have an account and ask them to commit the translations for you. Please note that if the committer is a different person than your team coordinator, then the committer will first have to verify with the team coordinator that the translations are acceptable before he or she can commit the translations for you.
Please also note that since accounts are always personal, in general only personal contributions are counted. In other words, having collected the translations of others while not contributing any translations of your own is in general not considered as a significant enough personal contribution. There have been made exceptions though, but those are to be treated as exceptions. If you are the team coordinator for a language team and have not and cannot contribute any translations of your own, but only coordinate the translation work of others, then you should expect to strongly motivate why you should have a personal account.
"A significant number" is generally interpreted as a handful of complete translations.
"Non-trivial" is generally interpreted as translations that are more than a hundred messages in size.
Recent Contributions
The translator who requests an account must be active and as a consequence there has to be recent enough contributions.
Approval from the Team Coordinator
The coordinator for the affected language team must approve of the account request. If it is the coordinator for a language team that requests an account, the Translation Project spokespersons must approve of the account request.
Requesting an Account
If you believe that all prerequisites above are covered, and you've read our Account FAQ, you may request an account by following the instructions at NewAccounts.
Account requests are handled by the volunteers in the AccountsTeam and the process may take a while. Be sure to carefully follow the instructions and provide all the required information in your account request, or the process may be further delayed.
When you have received your account, be sure to read and follow the account responsibilities.
