Gnome Quarterly Reports

The i18n team files quarterly reports, typically these will highlight milestones, new initiatives/capabilities, etc.

One idea for fleshing out these reports is to develop a standard set of statistics to be presented in a compact tabular form that present a snapshot of some potentially meaningful numbers. Admittedly, any given timepoint of data is not very useful, however, over time mining the metadata that falls out from maintaining a system like Damned Lies is one of the few ways that we have of quantifying our results in some potentially meaningful categories (recruiting localizers and completing strings).

Some Possible Statistics (and how to find them)

  • Total registered teams
  • Total registered team members
  • Total hosted strings/words
  • Quarterly L10n commits
  • Total hosted packages
  • Total completed strings/words
  • Langs over some given % complete.

Quarterly L10n commits

This blog has a breakout of L10n commit numbers, these could be added up or the author could be consulted on his method of compling them.

Langs over some given % complete

This is easily determined at a given timepoint by going to:

http://l10n.gnome.org/releases/gnome-3-4/

And scanning down the numbers in the left-hand column. Reporting at the 80% and the 50% cutoff may be useful.
