Systems Administration Team
The Systems Administration Team exists to manage the GNOME servers. More information on the servers and services supported by the team can be found on the Sysadmin page.
We handle all the setting and configuration of new services, migration and development of existing services, keep an eye on server logs, the sysadmin and infrastructure mailing lists, the request tracker queues and bugzilla categories related to the GNOME systems and generally look after the day-to-day administrative requirements of the GNOME servers.
Organizational structure
The team is led by the Systems Adminstration Coordinator. JohnCarr is currently filling this role on an interim basis. If sufficient funding can be obtained, the GNOME Foundation would like to make this a part-time paid position. Responsibilities of the coordinator include:
- Scheduling regular IRC meetings and setting the agenda for those meetings
- Tracking the status of routine sysadmin tasks and make sure that there are sufficient resources on the team to accomplish
- Reporting at regular intervals to the GNOME board and foundation membership
- Maintaining a roadmap of infrastructure enhancements
- Making sure volunteers have the permissions needed to accomplish their tasks
Responsibilities of team members include:
- Attending the IRC meetings
- Regularly spending time handling routine tasks
- Volunteering for infrastructure development projects as needed
There is no fixed size for the team, but there will always be at least <N> [FIXME: 5?] members. Team members are responsible for asking to be replaced when they no longer have the time to fulfill their responsibilities, and the coordinator will work with current team members to find a replacement team member.

Contacting the team
For accounts-related queries (svn and shell), please send your request to 'accounts@gnome.org'.
To report a problem with a system or service hosted on a 'gnome.org' server, please check it has not already been reported via one of the infrastructure-related categories in Bugzilla, and report it. The person responsible for that category will be notified automatically.
If it's a report of a major service outage, please post a quick summary (including the bugzilla number/link) to 'gnome-infrastructure@gnome.org' so that everybody is aware - it may be that someone else can also deal with it.
To request a new mailing list, see NewListRequest.
For infrastructure announcements, notices, requests or suggestions for new services, plans, proposals and general discussion, please use our 'gnome-infrastructure@gnome.org' list.
For private requests or discussion of sensitive issues, please submit your e-mail to the 'gnome-sysadmin@gnome.org' list.
We can also be contacted on IRC at irc://irc.gnome.org/sysadmin, although we do not guarantee a response via that medium.
Policies and decisions
In the unusual event that there is a dispute or refusal to action the request of a community member, and the community member feels the wrong decision was made or action taken, they should contact the Board, who will be able to mediate the request.
