GNOME Press Team
The GNOME press team is responsible for making press and journalists aware of what is happening in GNOME.
This page is a place holder but some of the things that are needed:
- Mailing list to notify press of major GNOME happenings without them needing to subscribe to all GNOME mailing lists.
Talking points and FAQ for GNOME people that might happen to talk to the press.
- Track important events (like releases, Software Freedom Day, Advisory Board members joining)
- Press releases at all major happenings.
- Create a GNOME Press Kit, with updates at every major release.
Helping the GNOME community talk to the public
The press team is responsible for helping the marketing team help the larger GNOME community talk to the public. They can do this by creating a press kit, creating press talking points, and setting up interviews between interested journalists and the appropriate GNOME contributors.
GNOME Press Kit
The GNOME press kit should include:
- TBD
In addition, before every interview or event talking points should be created.
Talking points
The press team is responsible for creating talking points for people interviewing with journalists or the public.
Good talking points include:
- Name of publication
- Name of journalists and contact info
- Meeting information (time, location, phone numbers, etc)
- Information about the journalist (who are they, what's their history, what do they normally write about?)
- Information about the publication (who is their audience, what type of articles do they publish, is it online or paper?)
- Talking points (what do you want to be sure gets mentioned? For example, upcoming events, a specific product, a specific point.)
- Examples of related articles this journalist has written. (This really helps the interviewee know what to expect.)
Press releases
The press team should write press releases for major GNOME happenings like releases, events and advisory board members joining. The press team should have a press release calendar that has press releases happening at regular intervals. Guidelines for writing a press release.
