The Mission of the GNOME Marketing Team
THIS IS A DRAFT being discussed in marketing-list. Edit the text or add your comments here. [This here link doesn't work and I'm not sure where it should go.]
Mission Statement
The Marketing Team provides an interface between the internal developer community and the outside world, with a specific focus on the GNOME stakeholders. Internally we work on a common vision of the project and its main objectives, ensuring that GNOME is a good place for contributors to collaborate. Externally we provide the official voice, presence and relationships of the GNOME Foundation. We also provide the tools for others to communicate outside of the GNOME Foundation. It is also our responsibility to facilitate the connection between user needs and the plans of the GNOME projects and the Foundation.
Areas of Responsibility
Releases - roadmapping, release notes and coordination with the Release Team.
Websites - www.gnome.org and the official GNOME subsites.
Press - Official news, press releases and press relations.
Events - GUADEC, Boston Summit and other events organized by GNOME or with official GNOME presence.
Merchandising - GNOME brand explosion: producing, licensing and selling.
Materials - Digital and printed documents and demos allowing more people to learn about GNOME.
Research - Collaboration with universities and private R&D programs.
Local groups - Coordination between the activities done at a local level.
The Marketing Team is a committee of the GNOME Foundation with responsibilities delegated by the board of directors. Anybody can join the tasks and areas of the team, take part on the discussions and decisions. When a formal agreement is needed (i.e. indecision or lack of consensus) the decision process is lead by the persons responsible of each area. A list of members and responsibilities is maintained at GnomeMarketing/MarketingTeam
