Big Picture
The goal of this project is to create a LiveCD to demonstrate GNOME. The initial motivation was to be able to send a GNOME LiveCD to journalists and news agencies so that they can test and talk about GNOME without installing it, but others have expressed interest as well. The infrastructure for this will be flexible, so that it can be easily customized and re-targetted- for example, to distribute a version with a custom splashscreen for a specific conference, to change the language for distribution by non-en_US gnome groups, or to change the software set to market to different groups (artists, developers, etc.)
A VMPlayer version is being developed at GnomeVMPlayer
Status
A number of GNOME 2.12 liveCDs have been built, in several languages, and are available below.
Some project files, including scripts, have been uploaded to GNOME cvs: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/livecd-project/
A /ToDo with goals for GNOME 2.12 is also available.

More Information
/ToDo (now including list of goals for the 2.12 liveCD)
Most of this information will be applicable to anyone building a liveCD and anyone who wants to edit them to make them more generic and more useful is welcome.
Big Picture Goals
[LuisVilla4] I would like this section to contain only specific, agreed upon needs of all the possible liveCD flavors. So, for example, concrete goal in this section would be 'allow trivial installation of a variety of packages', while lists of packages that might vary by liveCD target, might not be technically feasible, or are otherwise not completely agreed upon as necessary for all GNOME LiveCDs would be discussed elsewhere, probably in the /ToDo.
Some easy points (I suppose there are more to add, though I can't think of any offhand.)
- Demonstrate latest version of GNOME and other appropriate Free desktop software, including as much appropriate software as possible that is part of the greater GNOME family.
- Easy customization so that other groups showing off their own software (like Monoppix) can use us as a base point, and showcase GNOME while showing off their own software.
- Easy change of default language, addition of new languages [second point mostly taken care of already by Ubuntu.] GNOME-nl and other groups have requested this.
