GNOME Developer Kit
Mission
To provide an easy to use platform for testing, developing, documenting, and translating GNOME.
Overview
Available as a VMWare image and an installable ISO, the GNOME Developer Kit is a full Linux distribution derived from Foresight Linux containing daily builds of GNOME unstable from Subversion.
Download
Download (rpath.org). See next section if you are not sure which file to download.
- Currently all packages are refreshed daily and a new VMWare image is created for download.
System Requirements
- i686 CPU (i586 and earlier are not supported)
- at least 256MB RAM (512 MB desirable)
- 5 GB disk space
Using and updating the GNOME Developer Kit
You can burn the ISO image to a DVD and boot it to run live, or install it to your hard drive. Alternatively if you have enough RAM (1GB or more preferred), you can run the VMWare image in your current operating system. Download VMWare Player (it's free, you need to register though) or QEMU (packaged for most recent distributions) and run the downloaded VMWare appliance.
After running the GNOME Developer Kit, you can keep it updated to the latest GNOME Subversion without having to download the image again. The notification area will display a message when updates are available, using PackageKit. To update the image, you can use PackageKit or the terminal:
Right click on the PackageKit icon in the notification tray and click "Install Updates".
- Or, from a terminal type: sudo conary updateall to install the latest updates to the GNOME Developer Kit.
