New File Templates
The usual way to create new files is by starting the relevant application. For example, to create a new spreadsheet, you would go to the Applications panel menu, and find your favorite spreadsheet application. This would start you with a blank spreadsheet.
If you often create similar documents, such as a standard company invoice, then you can create a master template file (representing a blank invoice) and then create new instances of the template.
To create a template, you will have to get to your Templates folder. Open any folder, and from that window, select the Places menu (not the panel's Places menu), and choose Templates. If you are in browser mode (see (((Browser Mode)))), then you will want the Go menu rather than the Places menu. This will create a Templates folder in your Home folder. Any file in your Templates folder is considered a master template.
For example, after you have created your Templates folder, you can start your word processing application, and write and then save an invoice letter in your Templates folder. You now have a master template.
After this, in any folder (or by right-clicking on the Desktop), you can create an instance of your template by choosing the File → Create Document menu - your master template file will appear as a menu option. You can also create sub-folders in the Template folder. Sub-folders display as sub-menus in the Create Document menu.
